This Somatic Program is designed for individuals, coaches, and leaders who want to increase resilience and successfully address deeper aspects of transformation: purpose, community, emotional well-being, autonomy, mastery, energy, and financial well-being.
A great adjunct to traditional psychotherapy and medical management in treating chronic stress and dysregulation, which can contribute to physical symptoms including chronic pain, fibromyalgia, post-surgical pain, myofascial pain and tension, prenatal and perinatal traumas, motor vehicle accidents, physical traumas and injuries, falls, psychosomatic conditions, stress-related medical conditions, medical trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Shaking Is Normal
We are evolutionarily designed to shake off stress quite naturally in order to return the nervous system back to a normal, healthy state of balance. If not, we would not have evolved and survived as a species. But shaking isn't as natural for us now as it was for us when we were kids. We have become conditioned away from our innate shaking or natural stress response because we don't want to lose control, look weak or appear fearful.
Animals don't get traumatized because they can't get caught up in a story. Operating with only the reptilian brain, controlling vital functions such as heart rate, breathing, body temperature and balance, animals act instinctively. When faced with threat, they either fight, flee, or freeze. If they're lucky enough to survive, they will naturally shake off excess adrenaline once they find a safe place to do so. Once the coast is clear, they go back to business as usual -- fully aware, actively calm -- ready for the next threat that comes along.
We share the primitive, instinctive reptilian brain with reptiles and mammals, but we can't employ fight/flight so easily in this modern age. We can't fight everyone who threatens us or simply run for the hills when the stakes get too high. Instead, we freeze or hold onto excess unexpressed energy. Our evolved cerebral neocortex offers us higher order brain functions, allowing emotional responses and every other feat of cognition, but the thinking mind causes us unnecessary stress, anxiety, illness, and trauma.
While stress is a healthy part of life that helps motivate and/or alert us to danger, too much stress is dangerous for our health. If we can't turn off the fear switch, we stay "stuck" in hyper-arousal. When we fail to deactivate the stress-response, we can't "reset" and "rest and digest."
TRE® will bring the body back into a state of balance so that we may allow healing to occur.

TREMORING IN THE WILD
Herds of prey animals can be observed going through similar mini-cycles of tension, trembling, and relaxation each time they are activated by a sense of danger that then abates. This can happen hundreds of times a day. To them, it is perfectly natural. They may be tired at the end of a day on heightened alert, but they are not traumatized.
The following video shows an impala, which has gone into the freeze response. Before it went into freeze, the impala was running for its life, its system flooded with adrenaline, cortisol, and glucose, which empowered it to flee. Luckily for the impala, a hyena distracted the leopard, and then two baboons chased the leopard away.
This natural tremoring response releases the fight/flight energy that was aborted by the freeze. In spite of its harrowing experience, the impala bounds off, never to suffer PTSD or other trauma- or stress-related diseases, thanks to the fact that it “shook off” the traumatic experience immediately after it took place.

Empowered Healing
TRE empowers you with the knowing that that the body has the wisdom to healthy self.
TRE® is safe, easy-to-teach, easy-to-learn, controllable, inexpensive, and highly effective. In just one session, the results are quite noticeable. You can quickly and safely take healing into your own hands and shake off stress anywhere, anytime -- conveniently, on your own, to restore an inner sense of peace and calm.
WHAT IS TRE®
Tension & Trauma Release Exercises is a revolutionary body-based (somatic) technique that shakes off deep muscular patterns of stress, chronic tension, and trauma to calm the nervous system, building resiliency so you can easily return your body back to a state of balance even in the face of great stress.
WHO CAN DO TRE®
These seven simple exercises work for all body types and are easily adaptable for any fitness level or mobility challenge.
CAN I LEARN TRE® ON MY OWN
You can buy one of David Berceli's Books or videos to learn TRE® in the safety of your own home. You can also learn TRE® via skype with a certified practitioner. However, if you need support dealing with a chronic condition such as PTSD or feel unsure about how to do TRE® on your own, it's recommended that you learn TRE® from a certified practitioner for at least four sessions before practicing at home independently.
HOW IS TRE® DIFFERENT FROM PSYCHOTHERAPY
TRE® lets the body do all the work for you so there's no need to talk about or retell your story if you don't want. Bypassing the thinking mind, or ego, allows you to let go of what you've been holding.
CAN I DO TRE® IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER METHODS
TRE® can be used as a stand alone method or as a complementary healing modality in conjunction with yoga, meditation, or talk therapy.
HOW LONG MUST I DO THE EXERCISES
With practice and regularity (in about one month's time), you can eventually forego the warm-up exercises and incorporate TRE® after your normal exercise routine. Eventually, with consistent practice, your body will learn how to self-regulate and will let you know when it's time to shake without having to do any preliminary physical warmup.
Self-regulation has never been so easy, so convenient, and so effective.
Results are often immediate . . .
Are you ready to shake off stress and experience a newfound sense of active calm, energization, freedom, wholeness, and joy?
Tension & Trauma Release Exercises
Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.
Reported Benefits Include:
The therapeutic muscle tremors evoked by the TRE exercise process is a natural, internal, neuro-physiological response of the body to reduce its own stress and restore a sense of well-being.

- TRE is a body based (somatic) process which, when done properly, through a Certified TRE Provider can allow the individual to discharge tension from the body, which often does not require “revisiting the story”. (ie: verbally describing or talking about the traumatic experience)
- TRE is designed to be a self-help tool that once learned, can be used as needed, throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wholeness.
- TRE can be taught as either a simple self-help, tension reduction technique in a physical exercise program OR it can be used as an effective complementary practice when integrated with other treatment modalities by those in the healing professions, including the treatment of PTSD and anxiety disorder recovery.
- TRE can be taught in very large groups for communities that have experienced mass trauma.
- TRE promotes cohesiveness and openness between participants and can be a helpful tool for dispute resolution. (ie: interpersonal, corporate and political communication)
- TRE can cross culture and language barriers because it is based on natural physiological responses shared by all human beings.
Individuals who have physical or psychological/psychiatric conditions that require strict regulation, individuals with fragile psychological defenses, a complex history of trauma or restricting physical or medical limitations should consult their medical practitioner or a Certified TRE Provider prior to performing these exercises.
