Do you feel consumed by life– tired, overwhelmed, irritable a lot of the time? Do you feel jittery, anxious, with stores of nervous energy just waiting to be expressed? How are you using your time? What's draining your energy? How do you refuel? These questions have everything to do with energy. You are energy. Everything is energy. Awareness of energy is crucial if you want to make change. In today's modern world, filled with electronic gadgetry and instantaneous access to information, we are perpetually bombarded by stimuli, constantly connected to things that are draining us of our energy (ie. newspaper, computer, iPhone, iPad, microwave, t.v., radio) and overwhelming our nervous systems. Most of the time our attention is so absorbed in multitasking; we behave mindlessly rather than intentionally. As we race to beat the clock, time quickly disappears. Never fully enjoying the moment, we may eat while reading the newspaper, check emails while helping children with homework, or run through our “to do” lists in our minds while driving. If we're not careful, our energies can become depleted from the many energy vampires sucking the life out of us.

How can we meditate if our bodies are sick and diseased? Of if our minds are uncontrollably restless? Yoga āsana has the power to heal the body, to cure disease, and to purify our nerves so that our concentration becomes one-pointed. Yoga means "union" or "to yoke," which is the key to all healing -- reconnecting what's broken. Unity brings more purity because wherever there's union there's divinity. It is the Divine nature of our supreme Self which manifests through the practice of yoga. Our Union is connection, and our connection gives us safety. Our own body understands this, connecting the muscles to the bones and hugging the organs close, because our bodies know that we want everything together. If even one part of our body comes into danger, the whole body pays a lot of attention because it knows that its existence is dependent on every part of itself. Our bodies are teaching us to pay attention when we feel pain from part of it becoming hurt, and we do -- and we take care of our bodies as a result. But a yogi, a real student of union, sees the whole universe as his or her body. More than sees, actually feels the universe as their own. Amma knows your pain is mine, actually, she feels our pain as her own. Amma recognizes the spirit of Union as being the real spirit of the yogi. A true yogi is only always trying to create union with the Divine, to unite with the healing force of Mother Nature and Her medicines, to unite the families into loving harmony, to unite the communities into peaceful relations, to unite the peoples of all lands and ways, to unite even the terrible and the horrifying with the chance for redemption into the Unity of love. Simplicity. Healing. Core wellness. Listen. Listen. Listen. Many of us are suffering from Inner Heart Illness. Depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, migraines, body pain, diabetes, heart disease, cancer . . . It's time to stop the thinking, it's time to ACT NOW!!! Life will continually spin out of control if we don't learn how to rein it in. It takes intentional effort to want to slow down and feel good. You must want it. "the Universe turns up the heat that's just right for us. Each new situation comes along with predictability of greater severity." Feeling more in-control allows you to take life into your own hands. A calm, down-regulated nervous system learns how and when to eat and can avoid over-eating and/or emotional eating. Our fast moving world is full of ego, judgment, and blame. We listen to the media to define our reality. We believe what we hear without questioning. We accept and tolerate more than we should. Truth is spun and re-spun and takes on many disguises. |
